Requirements:
  • A properly kept swl logbook should be maintained for the specific period of three (3) months, which should contain a minimum of 300 QSOs copied.
  • This logbook should be submitted to the Licensing Committee before the examination for their verification.
  • Satisfactory logbook submission will lead the applicant to the examination
  • Pass in the Society’s written examination. The examination will be in multiple choice format and the examination paper comprises of 50 questions, on:
    • Rules & Regulations
    • Licensing conditions
    • Technical Basics
    • Transmitters and Receivers
    • Feeders and Antennas
    • Propagation
    • Electromagnetic Compatibility
    • Safety considerations

  • Pass in the Society’s Morse test, where the applicant is required to demonstrate his/her ability to send and receive Morse code at a speed of 5 words per minute.
  • Once the applicant passes both the examinations, they have to go for a practical test which they have to make 50 QSOs from the Society HQ station A47RS.

Preferred mode and usage Notes
All modes: CW, SSB and those modes listed as Centres of Activity, plus AM (Consideration should be given to adjacent channel users)
Image modes: Any Analogue or digital image modes within the appropriate bandwidth, for example SSTV and FAX
Narrow band modes: All modes using up to 500 Hz bandwidth, including CW, RTTY, PSK etc.
Digimodes: Any digital mode used within the appropriate bandwidth, for example RTTY, PSK, MT63 etc.
Sideband usage: Below 10 MHz use lower side band (LSB), above 10 MHz use upper side band.
(*) Lowest dial setting for LSB Voice Mode: 1843, 3603 and 7043 kHz
Notes:
  • CW QSO's are accepted across all bands, except within beacon segments
  • Contest activity shall not take placeon the 10, 18 and 24 MHz bands.
  • Non-contesting radio amateurs are recommended to use the contest-free HF bands (17 and 12 m) during the largest international contests.
  • The term " automaticaly controlled data stations" includes store and forward stations.

Transmitting frequencies:

  • The announced frequencies in the band plan are understood as "transmitted frequencies" (not those of the suppressed carrier)

3.5 MHz band:

  • Intercontinental operators should be given priority in the segments 3500 -3510 kHz and 3775 - 3800 kHz.
  • Where no DX traffic is involved, the contest segments should not include 3500-3510 kHz or 3775-3800 kHz.
  • 3510 - 3600 kHz may be used for unmanned ARDF beacons (CWA1A)

28 MHz band:

  • Members are advised not to transmit on frequencies between 29.300 and 29.510 Mhz to avoid interference to amateur satellite downlinks.
